Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

A 1996 Federal law that restricts access to individuals' private medical information. Addressing HIPAA and HITECH Compliance Challenges

high availability (HA)

The ability of a system to operate continuously without failing for a designated period. 

high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR)

High availability means systems and infrastructure achieve near-continuous uptime. Disaster recovery covers the steps needed to return to a normal state of operations after an adverse event.

Higher Education Compliance Alliance (HECA)

An organization that provides the higher education community with a centralized repository of information and resources for compliance with federal laws and regulations.

Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA)

A 2008 law that reauthorized the Higher Education Act of 1965 and required ‘many new reporting requirements for institutions, grant programs for colleges and students, and provisions designed to lower the cost of a college education.’
